As a first-time homebuyer, I was recommended a mortgage broker who gave me an idea of what the best range of interest rates he was going to be able to get for me, and so I went online and did some research and found out about canwise from Ratehub.ca. I was hesitant at first since the rate they were advertising seemed too good to be true, but I entered my info in although with great skepticism. I got a follow-up call from John Ross Hill, and had a great chat with him. He told me he's gotten the rate many times for people and it shouldn't be a problem for people in my scenario. I called the original mortgage broker guy who assured me it was a scam and that Canwise would "bait and switch" me, and to just trust him to get me the best rate. But after talking again with John, my confidence grew, and he assured me that he could meet all my deadlines, and that getting the rate wouldn't be a problem, and was extremely responsive to all my emails (he answered 17 in 1 day). Fast-forward to today, I got the lowest rate in Canadian history (at that time), 0.95% for 5 years and am saving considerably compared to the other "best rate" I was being promised.
